CENTRAL, SC. - The Emmanuel College softball team split their games against conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon. After dropping the first game 4-1, the Lady Lions came back with a 5-4 win in the second.
The first game remained scoreless for the first four innings, with just three combined hits between both teams. Finally, in the the bottom of the fifth, two SWU batters reached first on an error before a single from Taylor Le loaded the bases. The Warriors followed up with a homer to center field, setting them up with a 4-0 lead.
The Lions would have a couple hits in the sixth starting with a double from Caitlin Parks. Noelle Petty would strike out before Ryann White advanced Parks to third with a single to right field. The Warriors would stop their chances of scoring with two more outs.
The Lion's sole run would come in the top of the seventh with a homer from Morgan Franklin.
In the second game the Lions grabbed an early lead with a homer from Caitlin Parks. Ryan White would double to left field before Becky Collins brought her in to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. Emmanuel would put another run on the board in the top of the second when Noelle Petty put herself on first with a single to right field. Isabelle Petty brought her in while doubling to left field.
The Crusaders would respond with two runs in the bottom of the third and one run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the Lions at 3-3.
Another Warrior run would follow in the sixth inning to tie up the score once again.
Parks would have one last run for the Lions in the sixth with another RBI from Becky Collins. The Lions would hold off the Warriors from scoring to close out the game 5-4.
