Lady Lions Concede Twice on the Road

The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball team has suffered two losses this week as they travelled to Conference leaders Limestone College on Wednesday, and North Greenville on Friday. Emmanuel had a strong start against Limestone, with the opening quarter finishing up 13-13. However a breakout second quarter from top-of-the-table Limestone College, where they outscored Emmanuel 23-11, set them up for victory. Emmanuel managed just 6 points in the third quarter, before launching a comeback in the fourth quarter where they scored 35 points. The comeback was not enough to diminish the 30 point deficit they needed to make up in the final quarter though. Timia Reynolds and Elise Coberly top scored for the lions with 16 points, and 8 and 4 rebounds respectively. Avery Scarbrough managed 14 points for the night while Addie McNeely had 10.

After just a two day turnaround, Emmanuel suffered a heart breaking 4 point loss on the road to 8th placed North Greenville University. The Lions found a 4 point lead at quarter time, but were once again let down by a poor second quarter where they were outscored by 10 points, going into the half time break down by 6 points. The teams then had an even battle for the second half of the game, Emmanuel coming from 10 points behind to nearly clinch victory. Elise Coberly had a strong showing for the lions with 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Reynolds finished with 13, Scarbrough 12, and Trombley 10. NGU's Cameron Carter made an outstanding individual contribution with 32 points.

After the two losses this week Emmanuel has now slipped to 4th place on the Conference Carolina's ladder, with a 12-7 conference record. Limestone College remains unbeaten at the top of the table while King University and Mount Olive University take 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Emmanuel will play Lees-McRae College on Saturday February 20 at 2pm, in the hopes of gaining their 13th conference victory. Alesia Fagin will be honored on Saturday in a Senior Day presentation.
