Women’s Basketball Takes 5th Place at NCCAA National Championship

Winona Lake, IN – After a first round loss, the EC women's basketball team hoped to make the best out of the tournament and finish strong. In their next match against Bethesda University, the ladies were able to claim a narrow victory by 1 point. Now in position to take a 5th place finish, the Lady Lions were up against Bluefield College.

In an exciting and close match, the EC women's basketball team had their hands full, but they were able to overcome. At the end of the 1st quarter the Lions lead by 3 points at 14-11. The Rams would fight back throughout the second quarter to lessen the gap to 22-21. After a tradeoff of leads throughout the third quarter, the Lions began to fall behind before a 3-pointer from Addie McNeely gave them some momentum. The ladies would capitalize with another 3-pointer from Elise Coberly then close out the third quarter 39-37. Finally in the last quarter the Lady Lions looked strong with a constant lead until the 30 second mark, when a jump shot would put the Rams in the lead. The Lions would recover only to be tied again with just 2 seconds left on the clock. After a last second foul, Addie McNeely would make the second of her two free throws to claim another 1-point victory. Emmanuel defeats Bluefield 57-56.

The Lions were led by Elise Coberly with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

This win marks the end of the women's basketball season and gives them a final overall record of 21-11 and conference record of 14-8. Congratulations to the ladies on a successful season and a strong finish at nationals.
