Franklin Springs, GA - Head Coach Mike Bona and Assistant Coach Kayla Grudda are please to announce seven new signed recruits for the 2016-2017 fall class. At the guard positions are Lochlain Corliss a 5'9" freshman transfer from North Georgia College who played at North Forsyth High School in Georgia where she was a standout player on some really good high schoolteams. "Lochlain plays really hard all the time. She is a real competitor. Her ability to drive the ball but also be a threat to hit the three will make her a valuable assist to our team this year. Her leadership experience is something we need this fall." stated Coach Bona.
Jewel Montisano is a 5'7" freshman guard from Daytona Beach Florida. Jewel has the ability to play a few different guard positions as she also did that at Spruce Creek High School. When asked about Jewel Coach Bona stated," We are so pleased to have Jewel joining us. She is a leader on the floor and does a great job of getting everybody involved while still being a scoring threat herself. She shoots the three really well and has a knack for hitting the open player. She also loves the defensive end of the floor leading her team in taking charges every year. She is a great addition to our team."
At the shooting guard position is Sydney Nash a 5'7" freshman from Morgan County High School in Madison Georgia. They won the 3A state championship this year. Sydney is a tenacious player who has started since her freshman year. She averaged about 12 points a game and about 9 rebounds a game at the guard position her senior year. Coach Bona said, "Sydney is a quality student athlete in every way. She is a skilled and very competitive basketball player, she is a great teammate to play with, and she is also a really good student as well. We feel really fortunate and blessed to have her becoming a part of our program this fall."
Another addition at the shooting guard/wing position is 5'8" high school standout Jenesai Mohammed from South Carolina. She played at Concord First Assembly Academy in Concord NC. Jenesai averaged 18 points per game her senior season and also played in the state high school all star game in Charlotte NC. Coach Bona stated, "Jenesai has a chance to make an immediate impact on our team. Her ability to knock down the three point shot and play a few different positions for us makes her a valuable addition to our team. We are really excited to have her becoming a Lady Lion."
At the wing and forward position is an international player from Madrid Spain by the name of Marina Moreno Bendala. Marina is a 5'10" freshman that is a do it all kind of player. She plays for one of the top teams in Spain called Corazonistas. She can get to the basket, is a great passer, is tough minded, and can shoot the three ball. Coach Bona said about Marina,"Marina has loads of potential to be a really good college player. Her skill level and abilities fit really good with what we will need for our team this year. Her international experience of having to play all over the floor in so many different positions will be a real assist for us this fall."
At the forward position is the addition of freshman Ajah Taylor from Walhalla SC. Ajah is 5'10" freshman and is from West Oak High School who averaged 17 points per game and 11 rebounds per game her senior year. She was also selected to the all area first team and all conference teams. "Ajah can help us in many different ways", stated Coach Bona," she has the ability to play both inside and outside for us. This makes her a valuable player that can play multiple positions for us. We're really excited to have her with us."
At forward and post is 5'11" Abby Defabio from North Oconee High School in Oconee County Ga. Abby actually graduated a year ago and after a tour in the Coast Guard has decided to join the Lady Lions this fall. When asked about Abby Coach Bona said," Abby signed with us out of high school a year ago but decided to go into the Coast Guard. She has returned to join us this fall and we are so happy to have her on our team. She plays with a lot of physicality in her game. She runs the floor well and has the ability for blocking shots. She can score both inside and outside so her addition is an added plus to the really good recruiting year." Go Lions!
