Lady Lions Defeat KIng

Franklin Springs, G.A.- The Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team played against King University today. The Lady Lions showed great defense and defeated King with a final score of 65-77. The top scorers of today's game were Elise Coberly and Timia Reynolds. Elise Coberly was also able to snag the most rebounds for a total of 14. 

The first quarter started out with heavy defense from both teams. Elise Coberly put up the first two points for the Lady Lions, but that wasn't until there was only five minutes left. Lochlain Corliss was fouled first and made both of her free throws. King took over the lead, but to close the gap Timia Reynolds and Elise Coberly put up two points. Timia Reynolds scored her first 3-pointer to end the first quarter with the Lions still down 14-11.

King started off the second quarter by fouling Avery Scarbrough. Mikayla Trombley snagged a defensive rebound and put up two points. She then was fouled and made her free throw shot. Sydney Nash put up back-to-back shots to add four points to the board. Tayor Delasbour worked her way through King's defense and scored her first layup of the game. Timia Reynolds added to her points with another layup. Elise Coberly put up her first 3-pointer of the game. Lochlain Corliss was fouled and she made both of her shots to tie the game up 28-28. King scored two points to regain the lead, but then Lochlain Corliss came right back around and scored her first 3-pointer of the game to end the second quarter. Half-time rolled around with a tied game at 31-31.

Elise Coberly regained the lead at the start of the third quarter with a jump shot. Timia Reynolds scored back-to-back layups and was followed by back-to-back shots from Elise Coberly. Mikayla Trombley put up her first 3-pointer of the game. Avery Scarbrough snagged an offensive rebound and added two points to the board. Elise Coberly drove down the court to put up her second 3-pointer. Mikayla Trombley was fouled and made both of her shots from the line. The third quarter ended with the Lady Lions up by nine, 44-53.

Within the first minute of the fourth, Sydney Nash cleared a layup. Ashlyn Loudermilk and Marina Bendala scored layups. Sydney Nash was fouled and came to the line to shoot, but she only made one of her shots. Avery Scarbrough made four back-to-back shots including a free throw from a foul by King, which now put the Lady Lions up by ten. King started to get scared and began fouling consistently. Elise Coberly was fouled and made both her free throws. Lochlain Corliss was fouled twice and cleared her four shots. The fourth quarter ended with Timia Reynolds getting fouled by King. Timia Reynolds made both of her shots to bring the final game score to 65-77. The Lady Lions are victorious!

The Lady Lions now hold an overall record of 7-8, with a conference record of 5-6. Their next game will be at home against Barton on Tuesday Jan. 24th. This game will begin at 5:30 P.M.
