Spartanburg, S.C.- The Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team took on Converse College in a conference game and came out on top in their second straight win by defeating Converse 68-49. Timia Reynolds, Mikayla Trombley, and Avery Scarbrough led the Lady Lions in scoring tonight. Snagging the most rebounds was Elise Coberly.
Timia Reynolds started the scoring off in the first minute of the game with a jump shot. Avery Scarbrough followed with a layup. Timia Reynolds was the first to be fouled and made both of her free throws. Avery Scarbrough came through with a steal allowing Lochlain Corliss to add two points to the board. Ashlyn Loudermilk was fouled and made one of her free throws. The ladies had the lead until the last minute where Converse made two free throws. The free throws would end the first quarter with the score 9-11.
The second quarter started out with a jump shot from Taylor Delasbour. Converse had already scored and the ladies needed to make a comeback. Timia Reynlds and Mikayla Trombley added points to the board that would tie the game. Avery Scarbrough landed a layup which would push the ladies in front. Lochlain Corliss stole the ball from Converse allowing Timia Reynolds to make a layup. Timia Reynold and Avery Scarbrough were fouled and added three points to the board. Mikayla Trombley ended the second quarter with a layup from a rebound by Elise Coberly. The Lady Lions had a comfortable lead over Converse 31-24.
Timia Reynolds came out on fire after half-time with a jump shot. Avery Scarbrough followed through not a minute later to add two more points to the board. Mikayla Trombley sunk her first 3-pointer of the game. Elise Coberly snagged a defensive rebound and Lochlain Corliss made her way through to land a jump shot. The ladies were up 46-32 when Ashlyn Loudermilk was fouled. She made one of her free throws and the third quarter would end a few minutes later with no more scoring from the Lady Lions. They now had a ten-point lead, 47-37.
The fourth quarter started out with Mikayla Trombley snagging an offensive rebound and Elise Coberly making her first 3-pointer of the game. Avery Scarbrough put up a jump shot and the ladies were now up by 13-points. Taylor Delasbour completed her first 3-pointer and was followed by a second from Mikayla Trombley. The ladies kept Converse from scoring to much and kept sinking 3-pointers. Mikayla Trombley put up two more for a total of four. Elise Coberly had a huge block against Converse allowing Genesis Jones to add two points with a layup which would ensure the win for the Lady Lions. The game ended with a final score 68-49.
The Lady Lions now hold an overall record of 9-8, with a conference record of 7-6. The ladies will continue to be on the road as they will play North Greenville on Saturday Jan. 28th at 5:30 P.M.
