Central, S.C.- The Women's Basketball Team added a third win to their win streak by defeating Southern Wesleyan. The Lady Lions won with the final score 75-60. Elise Coberly, Timia Reynolds, and Mikayla Trombley led the ladies in scoring. Lochlain Corliss led the ladies in rebounds.
The first quarter of the game started with Avery Scarbrough making a jump shot. She was followed by Mikayla Trombley who drained her first 3-pointer. Timia Reynolds snagged an offensive rebound to put up a layup. She was fouled and completed her free throw. The ladies were up 8-2 when SWU made a comeback. Elise Coberly made a jump shot to increase the lead, but the warriors followed right behind. Lochlain Corliss stole the ball and made a layup. Sydney Nash followed adding two points to the board, but was fouled. She made her free throw, which would end the first quarter with the ladies up 15-13.
Marina Bendal got the second quarter started with a jump shot. Elise Coberly followed by sinking her first 3-pointer of the game. Ashlyn Loudermilk grabbed a defensive rebound allowing Taylor Delasbour the way to put up a jump shot. The ladies were up 22-16. SWU began playing defense and tied the game 24-24. Genesis Jones was fouled and made her two free throws. SWU tied the game back up 26-26. Timia Reynolds pulled the ladies back in front with two shots, which would end the second quarter with the score 32-31.
The third quarter started with Mikayla Trombley snagging an offensive rebound to put up two points. Taylor Delasbour put up a jump shot. SWU started fouling resulting in free throws from Avery Scarbrough and Timia Reynolds. Elise Coberly made a jump shot to help push the ladies in front bringing the score to 41-36. Lochlain Corliss made a jump shot off a rebound by Timia Reynolds. Elise Coberly made back-to-back shots. Avery Scarbrough cleared three free throws. She was followed by Ashlyn Loudermilk who made a jump shot. That shot put the Lady Lions in a 10-point lead. Genesis Jones stole the ball from SWU allowing Elise Coberly to put up her second 3-pointer. Ashlyn Loudermilk made a layup to end the third quarter. The Lady Lions were leading 57-44.
Taylor Delasbour scored her first 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter. She came back to make a jump shot to put the ladies in the lead by 16-points. Timia Reynolds made a layup followed by two shots from Mikayla Trombley. The ladies came close to a 20-point lead, but SWU scored two shots. Avery Scarbrough made a jump shot followed by Elise Coberly making her third 3-pointer. Mikayla Trombley made a layup and the ladies now led SWU by 20-points. SWU made two final shots, but the Lady Lions had the lead by a long. The ladies won with a final score of 75-60.
The Lady Lions now hold an overall record of 12-10, with a Carolina Conference record of 10-8. The ladies next game will be at home against Erskine on Wednesday Feb. 15th. That game will begin at 5:30 P.M.
