Wilson, N.C.- The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team took on Barton College. The Lady Lions were on a three-win game streak, but did not pull out their fourth win. The ladies lost to Barton 68-74. Although they lost, Elise Coberly led in scoring with 21-points and rebounds with 12-total.
Timia Reynolds was fouled to start the first quarter and made one of her free throws. Elise Coberly stole the ball from Barton and made a jump shot. Timia Reynolds followed with a jump shot. Elise Coberly rebounded her own shot and scored two points. The ladies were up 7-4. The ladies fouled and Barton tied the game 7-7. Elise Coberly came down the court and put up her first 3-pointer of the game. Taylor Delasbour entered the game and ended the first quarter with her first 3-pointer, which tied the game 13-13.
Barton stepped up their defense, but fouled Ashlyn Loudermilk in the process. She scored one of her free throws. Barton kept up their defense and took over the lead. Lochlain Corliss made a layup to bring the score to 16-26. Timia Reynolds snagged an offensive rebound to make a layup. Timia Reynolds charged down the court to score a layup off a rebound. Lochlain Corliss scored the last two points of the quarter. The ladies made a comeback and were only down 22-29.
Timia Reynolds scored the first layup of the third quarter. Avery Scarbrough made the next layup and was fouled. She made her free throw. Elise Coberly was the next to score 2-points in attempts to regain the lead. The ladies were up 29-33 when Barton took over the scoring. Mikayla Trombley put up a jump shot followed by two shots from Elise Coberly. She was fouled and made her free throw. The ladies were down by 3, but Barton took off once again. Elise Coberly and Mikayla Trombley made 3-pointers. The quarter ended with Ashlyn Loudermilk making a free throw. The ladies were down by four, 45-49.
The ladies were down 45-56, then Timia Reynolds and Mikayla Trombley scored two points. Elise Coberly snagged rebounds left and right, but the ladies still trailed. Timia Reynolds stole the ball back-to-back resulting in four points being added to the board. Mikayla Trombley was fouled and made both of her free throws. Lochlain Corliss stole the ball from Barton and charged down the court for a layup. Mikayla Trombley added four points to the board and Lochlain Corliss was fouled. She added two points to the board. Elise Coberly scored the last two points for the ladies. The ladies almost caught up, but gave more points away by fouling Barton. The game ended with a final score 68-74.
The ladies now have an overall record of 13-11, with a Carolina Conference record of 11-9. The ladies will play their last home game of the season on Tuesday Feb. 21st, which will begin at 5:30 P.M. This final home game will also be Senior Night for the senior basketball players.
