WINONA LAKE, IN. - The Emmanuel Lady Lions run to the NCCAA National Championship came up short against No.1 Mid-America Christian University on Thursday night.
The ladies lost a hard fought match 73-60. This loss doesn't knock them out of the tournament, however, as they will play again on Saturday for 3rd place.
Both teams had stellar performances, holding the lead for almost an identical amount of time. The Lions were up most of the 1st half, including 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter.
In the second half, Mid-America had a strong push that toppled the Lions defense. In the third quarter alone the Lions were outscored 30 points to 14. This run put the Evangels in a comfortable lead going into the final quarter.
Now facing an 11 point deficit, Emmanuel had to put their best foot forward or risk losing their chance at the finals. The Ladies were able to get that gap as close as 60-63 after Emily Dreslinski made both shots off of a foul. Unfortunately, time was not on the Lions side as the clock ticked down into the final minute. The Lions were forced to foul to stay in the game, allowing Mid-America several shots from the the free throw line. The night came to an end with a 73-60 loss for the Lions.
Emmanuel will play one more game at the NCCAA National Tournament on Saturday morning at 10:00am as they fight for 3rd place against #3 Greenville University.
