Lady Lions Fall To Saints in Season Opener

Gaffney, S.C. – The Emmanuel College's Lady Lions (0-1,0-1CC) started off their 2017 season with a conference game at Limestone College (1-0,1-0CC). The Lady Lions played fiercely against the Saints but came up short this time around.

The first goal of the game and of the season for the Lady Lions was by sophomore Aleah Marijanich, and the assist came from Junior Lara Russell. Senior Allie Brock and Sophomore Hanna Hernandez both boasted an impressive 100% shooting percentage against the Saints.  Junior Tara Larson scored an impressive goal five minutes into the second half with an assist from Aleah Marijanich. The Lady Lions fought hard and came away with four goals against the Saints.

On the defensive side of the field, Shannon Sapp, Samantha Metzger, and Emily Oliver each caused a turnover. Tara Larson led the team with 8 of the 14 draw controls, followed second by Aleah Marijanich who had 3. The Lady Lions totaled 8 ground balls, and the defense managed to hold the Saints to 21 goals.

In the goal, sophomore Emma Pow played a total of 23:06 minutes in which time she had 15 shots on goal taken against her and she saved 5 of them. The remaining time in the goalie position (36:54) was played by sophomore Tiana Machado who had 14 shots taken against her and she saved 3 of them.

The Lady Lions will have their first home game against Pfeiffer University on February 11th at 1 PM.
