Lady Lions Lacrosse Wins First Conference Game

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Lady Lions Lacrosse team won their first conference game of the season on Feb. 20.

The home game ended with the Lady Lions putting up 20 goals against the 8 from Converse College. Eight of those 20 goals were made less than 15 minutes into the first half.

Goals came from Ellie Friese with an assist from Megan Shortt, Shortt unassisted, Aleah Marijanich with an assist from Lara Russell, Friese with an assist from Russell, Hanna Hernandez with an assist from Russell, Shortt with a free position shot, Friese unassisted and Tara Larson with an assist from Hernandez.

With 14:17 remaining, Converse made their first goal and less than a minute later, Friese made another goal for the Lady Lions. Friese also made another goal with an assist from Russell with 6:53 remaining.

At 3:57, with the Lady Lions leading 10-3, Angellie Garcie made a goal on a free position shot. She was followed by goals from Larson with an assist from Shortt, a second goal from Larson with an assist from Russell and an unassisted goal from Shortt.

The Lady Lions led 14-3 going into the second half.

Converse College made the first goal of the second half, but a little over three minutes later, Larson came right behind them with a goal from an assist from Russell.

After three more goals from Converse, Marijanich made an unassisted goal with 7:37 remaining. The Lady Lions now led 16-7.

With one final goal from Converse, Larson made the next goal for the Lady Lions on a free position shot with 5:55 remaining and brought the score to 17-8.

Larson also made the next goal unassisted and was followed with two more goals for the Lady Lions from Marijanich on a free position shot, and from Russell with an assist from Shortt.

The Lady Lions finished the game 20-8 over Converse College.

Other moments from the game included nine saves from goalie Tiana Machado. The Lady Lions also had 19 turnovers, 18 draw controls, 13 ground balls, 27 shots and were 4-7 on their free position shots.

Out of the attempted shots for the game, Larson had eight, Friese had seven, Marijanich had five, Shortt had three, Russell had two and Garcia and Hernandez both had one.

The next game for the Lady Lions will be Feb. 27 at Southern Virginia
