Franklin Springs, GA - This weeks Athletes of the Week are Freshmen Alex Soners and Senior Jeremiah Lutz.

Alex Soners is a freshmen on the men's swimming team from Bridgetown, Barbados. Alex, before coming to Emmanuel in the fall, competed in this years Olympic Games in Brazil representing, him home country. Since the Olympics, Alex has been training in preparation for NCAA Division II and also the FINA World Swimming Championships in Windsor, Canada that was this past week. Alex competed in four events at the world Championships: 400 free (3:58.13) 54th place, 200 free (1:49.69) 57th place, 50 free (23.50) 72nd place, 100 free (50.37) 70th place. Head Coach Allen Gilchrest had this to say about Alex's performance at Worlds, "Alex just turned 18 in November! Competing at the World Championships at such a young age, against the World's best swimmers, he did a great job." Alex finished the meet by breaking the Barbados national age group record in the 100 free for his age group. 

Up next, the men's swimming team will be at Carson Newman University on January 13th at 3:00 p.m.

Jeremiah Lutz is a senior on the men's wrestling team from Woodstock, GA. Lutz has been a part of the wrestling team from the start of the program back in fall 2014. This past weekend Jeremiah won at the Jet Invitational winning the first two matches by fall and technical fall. Even though Lutz won his weight class, his biggest accomplishment from the tournament was defeating the #6 ranked Division II wrestler in the country.  

Next up for the men's wrestling team will be the Mid-West Classic on December 17th.
