WOMEN SWIMMING IN FIRST AFTER DAY 1

Christiansburg, VA: On Day 1 of the 10th Annual Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships the EC lady lions competed in the first 2 events the 1000 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay.


In the 1000 free, Audrey Johnstone placed 3rd (10:47.52) setting a new EC school record by 8 seconds. Morgan Harkness placed 5th (11:06.42), Senior, Laura Gonzalez placed 10th (11:43.48), Denita-Sue Pieterse placed 16th (12:18.36), Paisley Whitaker 18th (12:44.42), and Sarah Curtright 21st (15:06.32).

In the last event of the night, the 800 free relay (Monges, Johnstone, Dawes, Tobo) placed 2nd (7:51.62), setting a new EC school record by 6 seconds. Freshmen, Clara Monges lead off the relay with a 1:54.88 which is a new EC school record as well. 

 

Head Coach, Allen Gilchrest commented; "I am so excited for our ladies, 3 school records, 4 ladies scoring in the top 16 of the 1000, our highest relay finish in school history with 2nd, and we are sitting in 1st place after day 1." GO LIONS!

 

The women are in first place overall with 72 points, Mars Hill is in second with 62 points.
