MONGES FIRST INDIVIDUAL CONFERENCE CHAMPION

Christiansburg, VA: On day 3 of the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships, the women had another great night of finals, with freshmen Clara Monges becoming the first EC female individual conference champion, 5 more school records, and 1 conference record.

 

In the 200 medley relay, (Calka, Ribeiro, Monges, Ostojska) placed 2nd (1:48.18) in a new EC school record time, dropping 4 seconds off the previous school record (1:52.19).


In the 400 IM, freshmen Anna Calka placed 4th (4:44.96), Sarita Duarte 5th (4:46.72).

In the 100 fly, Clara Monges placed 1st (56.71) in a new EC school record and conference record time. Senior Laura Gonzalez finished 10th (1:00.21).

In the 200 free, Clara Monges placed 2nd (1:54.16) in a new EC school record. Freshmen Karolina Ostojska placed 5th (1:56.64) in a person best time. Megan Dawes 7th (2:00.66).

In the 100 breast, Juliana Ribeiro placed 2nd (1:07.69) in a new EC school record. Denita-Sue Pieterse 11th (1:13.60), Anna Queen 16th (1:23.11).

 

In the 100 back, Senior captain, Diana Tobo placed 3rd (1:00.04).

Senior captain, Laura Gonzalez; "It is just amazing to see how great we are doing, how everyone is swimming their best, and how we are working as a team to get where we are. I am so proud of this team and it has been an honor to be part of it for the last 4 years."

 

The women are still in second place in the team standings, and trail Brenau University by just 41 points.
