Lady Lions come up short at conference opener

Due West, SC – The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team traveled to Erskine College this Thursday for the first conference Carolinas match of the season.

The Lady Lions faced some problems early in the doubles match and saw the home team with break leads on courts #1 and #2. The first point of the day came from the young pair formed by Cipriano/Silva by 8-3. After coming back from a 4-1 down, the Sophomore team, Botella/O'Connor could not maintain their best rhythm and dropped the match, followed by #2 doubles Raich/Kiderlen.

Looking for the equalizer in singles and with the score in favor of Erskine by 2-1. Emmanuel started fighting hard with all courts in tight matches. On court #3 Maria Raich fought hard but dropped the match and the Flying Fleet had now a 3-1 lead overall. The second point for the Lions came from Fantine Botella at #1 in 3 sets with a very close tie break to end the match. Not too long after, Pearllan Cipriano also grabbed a win in 3 sets, after dropping the initial one, to give EC a third point and the equalizer.
