Mount Olive, NC - The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team traveled to the home courts of University of Mount Olive for the second conference Carolinas match of the season. After a tough loss against Erskine last week, the Lady Lions were looking to grab their first conference win of the year.
In doubles play, the Lions kicked off strong, especially at #2 and #3. With solid returns and fast approaches at the net the duo formed by Raich/Kiderlen quickly dispatched their opponents by 8-2, followed by Cipriano/Silva on court #3. In the meantime, Botella/O'Connor faced a break down, railing 6-3. With better serves and better net play, the Lions reacted to tie the match at 6 but the Trojans kept pressing and took the lead. Emmanuel still saved two match points with great serves from Botella but Mount Olive snagged the match by 8-6.
With an important 2-1 lead going into singles play, the Lions needed at least 3 more wins to have the overall win in the Dual match. The first point came from the Sophomore Chloe O'Connor at #6 by a convincing 6-0 6-1 win. Next, Pearllan Cipriano did not disappoint and dispatched her opponent by 6-1 6-3 for her 6th consecutive win this Spring. On court #4, the Freshman Victoria Silva was battling in the third set and after being a break down at 4-3, she was able to win 3 consecutive games to consolidate the win for the Lady Lions. The Sophomore Fantine Botella increase the lead of the Lions, and her 5th consecutive win, with a 6-4 6-4 win. Not too long after, Katharina Kiderlen cruised for a 6-1 6-1 win.
The Emmanuel Lady Lions will be back in action tomorrow on the road again now facing the Barton Bulldogs. First serve is scheduled for 11AM!
