Mount Olive, NC – The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team continue their Conference Carolinas Matches today, now at the home of the University of Mount Olive Trojans.
Like any other dual match this season, the Lions kicked off the competition with doubles. All matches were close but Cipriano / Silva were able to get the first break of the day before they took off on the scoreboard to get the first point of the day by 8-3. With very accurate plays at the net, EC was able to earn the second point of the day came on court #2 with Kiderlen / Raich.
The 2-1 lead at the start of singles play definitely helped Emmanuel at the start of singles competition. The visiting team was looking to clinch the event early but the conference Carolinas defending champions were not making anything easy. The Junior Katharina Kiderlen, earned a pair of breaks throughout the match that was just enough for her to get a third point to EC. On court #2, Pearllan Cipriano, faced a rollercoaster of ups and downs and closed the first set by 6-4 after getting a 4-1 lead. The story was not much different in the second set with players trading breaks until an eventual tiebreaker. Cipriano had the chance to close the deal with 3 match points in her favor but the Trojan saved all of them with very brave shots. After denying a few set points from her opponent, Pearllan finally got the win by 6-4 7-6. Victoria Silva played a very smart match today with several opportunities to end things early but the Sophomore from Venezuela did not disappoint her teammates at all, closing the match by 6-4 6-4, remaining undefeated in conference play this season. Lastly, Chloe O'Connor had to work her game during the first set before cruising for a win. The junior from Zimbabwe was fearless coming in to the net as often as possible and gave EC the last win of the day by 7-5 6-0.
The Lady Lions Tennis Team will have a couple of days of rest & practice before they hit the road again. Coming up next is the North Greenville University Crusaders! First serve is scheduled for 2PM!
