Lady Lions Volleyball Score First Win of the Season

 

Florence, SC - The Lady Lions volleyball team scored their first win of the season in a close five setter again Newberry College in the Francis Marion Tournament this evening, September 9th. The Lady Lions continue to show their toughness and drive to win after playing a five setter earlier this morning and playing another one this afternoon. Winning this game, the Lady Lions record is 1-5 for the season.

The Lady Lions came out fighting against Newberry College and won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23. The Wolves soon fought back and took over the next two sets by winning 25-23 and 25-16, making the score tied 2-2 and forcing a fifth set. In the fifth set the Wolves came out strong and took a demanding lead, but the Lady Lions never gave up. Fighting back from a 3-8 deficit, the Lady Lions overtook the momentum of the game and finished strong by winning the fifth set 19-17. 

Once again, leading the way for the Lady Lions, Senior Erica Burnham played a tremendous game with 18 kills, 2 aces, and 17 digs. Also leading with kills, Jessica Gray had 10, while Sarah Neill, Julie de Blanck, and Mia McKensey each had 8 kills. One of the top freshman on the team, Sarah Neill, comes out every game ready to play. and she once again led the way with 22 digs on top of her 8 kills, 1 ace, and 1 block. Another player needing to be recognized for her tremendous playing skills is Stephanie Hardy who had 45 assists on top of her 11 digs, 4 kills, 3 aces, and 2 blocks.

Congratulations to the Lady Lions for their first win of the season! The Lady Lions will be back at it tomorrow, September 10th at 9:00 a.m. against Anderson University.
