Women's Volleyball win one match, lose one match in opening day of Emmanuel Tournament

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosts their first home games this weekend in a tournament spanning Friday and Saturday (Sept. 8-9). This afternoon the Lady Lions won their first match at 2 p.m. with Clark Atlanta 3-0 then fell short against Union University 3-1.
 
The first match against Clark lasted only three sets, with the Lady Lions taking the match 3-0. Scores were 25-9, 25-11, 25-17.
 
Sarah Neill (#18) led the Lions with 13 kills followed by Julie de Blanck with 11 kills and 1 solo block. Libero Aysha Avery (#21) tallied 11 digs. The Lady Lions ended the match with a team kill percentage of .449.
 
In their second match this evening, against Union (Tenn.), the Lady Lions played an intense four sets. After losing the first set 25-19, they fought hard the remainder of the game, taking set two 28-26, and barely losing set three 30-28. Union closed out the match in the 4th set 25-20.
 
Midway through the fourth game, four points behind Union, the Shaw Athletic Center fire alarms went off, evacuating the building for around 20 minutes. The problem was quickly resolved, and no one was injured. The girls warmed up again briefly before resuming the match, Emmanuel in possession of the ball. They were met with an energetic crowd and passionate teammates in the stands and sidelines.
 
Froeberg, de Blanck, and Neill scored the most points for the Lady Lions in this second match, while setter Stephanie Hardy (#15) ended the game with 47 assists.
 
The Lady Lions will play again tomorrow in the Shaw Athletic Center at 2 p.m. against Ala.-Hunstville and 7 p.m. against Texas A&M Int'l.
