This week's recognzied athletes are Camilo Mendoza (Men's Swimming) and Cindy Calixto (Women's Wrestling). Both of these athletes showed incredible performances in their events, representing Emmanuel on the conference and national level of competition.
Camilo Mendoza is a senior from Medellin, Columbia. Camilo is one of the strongest swimmers at Emmanuel, every event where he performs he is expected to bring some points for the Lions. When Emmanuel was travelling for the Conference Tournament, Mendoza was one of the swimmers upon whom coaches, teammates and fans rely, and Camillo didn't let anyone down. Mendoza finished first in three of his individual events: 200 IM (1:49.35); 400 IM (3:56.30); 200 FR (1:39.99). All three swims are new EC records, as well as ASC conference records, and on top of that they are all NCAA Division II National qualifying times. Also, Camilo performed incredibly during team relays, helping his teammates finish first in the 400 free relay which set a new EC and Conference record.
Cindy Calixto is a sophomore from Kingston, NY. Cindy joined the Lions as a transfer from Springfield Technical Community College, and right of the bat became one of the key wrestlers on the Lions' squad. Cindy had a huge success at the WCWA National Tournament in Oklahoma City, and was named the first ever All American for Emmanuel College. Even though Cindy was not seeded for the tournament, she was able to go 6-2 during the two day tournament, finishing 4th on the stand. Calixto avenged 4 losses from earlier in the season at the tournament, which proves her great work ethic and extreme dedication.
