Hewell to Another Top 10 Finish

Hewell to Another Top 10 Finish

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lady Lions had a good showing in Charlotte for the afternoon race hosted by Queens University this Friday.  The race got out to a quick start on a flat, two loop course.  Makayla Hewell led the way for the Lions with a sub 5:40 first mile and really didn't let up.  Hewell closed strong and finished in 7th place, reeling in much of the competition.  Her time of 17:54 puts her under 18:00 for the second time this season.

Freshman Alex Quarles ran a great race as well.  Her time of 20:16 puts her under 21:00 minutes for the second time ever for 5k and she continues to get stronger and improve.  Senior Kaylynn Rainey and Juniors Carli Broome and Erin Putnam rounded out the top five this race, finishing 18th out of 26 schools.

"We're progressing well this season.  We are striving to continue to improve to November, so I think we're on the right track," said Coach Hall.  The team will race again next Friday in Milledgeville, Georgia.
