ALBANY, GA. - The Emmanuel College Baseball Team opened their season this weekend on the road at Albany State. Although the weather was cold, the Lion offense started off the season on fire with five consecutive hits plating four runs.
After an error and a walk the first inning scoring was capped off with a two out, two RBI double by Philip Swindell. Staked to a six run lead Bryson Cornett took the mound and retired the first three hitters he faced. After a quiet second inning the Lion offense exploded for four more runs in the third inning on a three RBI double by Swindell and an RBI single by Brock Baughcum.
The Rams would push across single runs in the second and third and a pair of runs in the fourth to cut the Lion lead to 10-4. Cornett would finish off his evening with a scoreless fifth and hand the ball over to Colton Bridges for the sixth. The Lion offense would be held in check for the final six innings and the team would need to lean on the right arm of Bridges to finish the game. He proved to be up to the task as he pitched the final four innings allowing only an unearned run to seal the win for the Lions.
Brock Baughcum – 2-4, RBI
Philip Swindell – 2-4, 2 Doubles, 5 RBI
Bryson Cornett – (W) 5 IP, 2 ER, 3 K's
Colton Bridges – (S) 4 IP, 0 ER, 2 K's
The Lions will step back on the plate on Saturday, February 10th when they take on Mars Hill at home.
