ALBANY, Ga. - On their first road game of the season the Lions traveled to Albany, Georgia to take on the Rams of Albany State. The home team would be the first to touch home plate as they took advantage of a two out double in the bottom of the first to plate two runs and take an early lead. Being held to one hit through the first two innings the Emmanuel offense broke through in the third. After a lead off single by Kyle LaCross and another single by Brock Baughcum the Lions would tie the game at two on Jake Nichol's double off the left field wall. Lion starter Bryson Cornett settled in and sat down fifteen of the next sixteen batters before allowing his final earned run of the night on a two out home run to right field. The lead was short lived as the Lions again tied the score in the top of the seventh as Demetrius Foster scampered home on a Sac Fly by Brock Baughcum. Cornett would give way to the bullpen after pitching six and two-thirds of competitive baseball. The first guy out of the pen was Tyler Mayfield who, after hitting the first batter he faced to load the bases, would get a strike out to end the threat. In the bottom of the eighth inning the Lions would surrender two unearned runs and trail 5-3 headed into the ninth. Refusing to go quietly the Lion offense went to work on the Ram bullpen. Demetrius Foster led off with a two strike double to left center field and back to back walks would load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout Foster was able to score on a wild pitch and move the tying and go ahead runs into scoring position. A groundout by Jorge Villalobos tied the game at five and set the table for some late inning heroics from the Lion hitters. With the go ahead run ninety feet away Kyle Gaura sent the first strike he saw screaming toward the fence in right center field for a triple to give the Lions their first lead of the game. Senior Stephen Skeggs stepped to the plate for his first at bat of the night and drove the two strike offering to right field for an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-5. Cody Waters struck out the first two batters of the home ninth before a hit by pitch would bring the tying run to the plate. The Ram second baseman connected on a 1-0 fastball and sent it soaring deep off the wall in left field. This put the tying run at second and brought the Ram four hole hitter to the plate. Waters was able to quiet the rally and end the game as he was able to induce a swinging strike three.
