Lions Tough Loss Against King University

Bristol, T.N.- The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team is away at King University for their second match-up. The Lions defeated King at home, but did not bring home the victory. Kurtis Robinson led the Lions in scoring with 24-points and was followed by Zach Vess with 16-points. Rebounds were reversed with Zach Vess leading with 11 total and Kurtis Robinson following with 8 rebounds.

Kurtis Robinson came out on fire tonight scoring the first two points for the Lions. Kurtis Robinson had a huge block on a shot by King. Zach Vess scoring the next three points, including one free throw. Zach Lillie followed with a layup. The Lions were down 7-24 with twelve minutes left in the half. Zach Vess blocked a shot from King and then took the rebound. Colton Collins made a layup from that. Zach Vess snagged two offensive rebounds before Zach Lillie snagged the third to put up a jump shot. Colton Collins cleared the first 3-pointer of the game. Zach Vesss was all about the blocking shots tonight with a second block on King. Colton Collins made his second 3-pointer after that. The Lions were coming back with the score 17-29. King scored again and Zach Vess charged down the court, jumped up and dunked the ball over King. Kurtis Robinson came through with a jump shot and was followed by back-to-back 3-pointers from Derek Vandiver. The Lions were now down 27-39. With three points from Kurtis Robinson and two free throws by Emerson McClung, the Lions were only down by seven. Zach Lillie put up the last two points of the half bringing the score 34-43, with a layup on the buzzer by King.

The second half started out with Kurtis Robinson putting up a jump shot. Zach Lillie snagged an offensive rebound to put up a layup. The Lions were now down 40-47. King scored again, but Zach Vess added three points to the board. The Lions were down by seven. Zach Lillie stole the ball from King and was fouled. Kurtis Robinson scored back-to-back shots and the Lions were only down three points. King took off and scored again. Zach Vess grabbed an offensive rebound and put up a jump shot. King took off with the scoring again and the Lions fought hard to come back. Kurtis Robinson fought against King to bring the Lions back up 62-69. Emerson McClung set Zach Vess up for a clean dunk over King. Austin Greene put up a jump shot, then Kurtis Robinson was fouled. Robinson made both of his free throws. Emerson McClung scored his first points of the game with a jump shot. Derek Vandiver put up a 3-pointer to end the game. The final score of the game was 76-88.

The Lions now hold an overall record of 11-10, with a Carolina Conference record of 6-7. The Lions will be at home playing against Belmont Abbey on Saturday Feb.4th. That game will begin at 4:00 P.M.
