Lions Gain Their Second Victory over Lees-McRae

Banner Elk, N.C.- The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team traveled to battle against Lees-McRae in their second match-up this season. The Lions won against the Bobcats by just 1-point back in November, but tonight the Lions pulled off a 14-point win. The final score of tonight's game was 79-65. Kurtis Robinson scoring 21-points and Zach Lillie scoring 20-points, led the Lions in scoring tonight. Kurtis Robinson gained the most rebounds with 14 total.

Lees-McRae got off to a rocky start with a foul by the Bobcats against Emerson McClung. Emerson made both of his free throws. Kurtis Robinson posted a huge block against the Bobcats. He snagged an offensive rebound from his own shot allowing Zach Lillie to put up his first two points of the game. Austin Greene put up a jump shot and was fouled. He made his free throw. Kurtis Robinson was fouled next and made one of his shots, as well. The Lions were up 8-5 when Emerson McClung put up his first 3-pointer off an offensive rebound by Kurtis Robinson. Zach Lillie made a layup. Colton Collins was fouled while the Lions were on defense. Both of his free throws were good. Zach Lillie made the next two layups with one being off an offensive rebound. Emerson McClung cleared a dunk over the Bobcats without an assist. Zach Lillie and Kurtis Robinson both made layups. The score was staying close and the lead would continuously switch from the Lions to the Bobcats. Kurtis Robinson and Colton Collins had back-to-back 3-pointers which would end the first half. The final score at the half had your Lions up 34-32.

The second half started off just like the first. Zach Lillie was fouled by the Bobcats and made both of his free throws. Ronnie Stanley stole the ball from the Bobcats allowing Zach Lillie to score the next two points. Ronnie Stanley snagged a defensive rebound passing to Austin Greene who helped Derek Vandiver put his first 3-pointer of the game through the hoop. Austin Greene up the next 3-pointer. Zach Lillie came off the bench and charged down the court to dunk the ball over the Bobcats. This pulled the Lions in the lead 48-47. The Bobcats took over the lead, but Kurtis Robinson tied the game up 50-50. Derek Vandiver pulled the Lions in front with his second 3-pointer. Kurtis Robison scored the next 6-points including two free throws from two separate fouls. Derek Vandiver put up his third 3-pointer off a block by Zach Lillie. Kurtis Robinson stole the ball from the Bobcats to put up a layup. The Lions were now up 66-64. Zach Lillie came through with a jump shot to push the Lions in front for the final time. Kurtis Robinson and Emerson McClung put up points. Lees-McRae continued to foul even to the last minute with fouls against Ronnie Stanley and Austin Green. They both made all of their shots, but Austin Greene would end the game with his. The Lions finally broke away and held the lead over the Bobcats with a final score of 79-65.

The Lions now hold an overall record of 13-10, with a conference record of 8-7. They will travel on Saturday Feb. 11th to play against Southern Wesleyan. That game will begin at 4:00 P.M.
