FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team fell to the University of North Georgia 79-71 on Tuesday night in the Williamson Basketball Arena.
The Nighthawks battled for an early lead behind a strong showing from Shawn Hopkins and Jack Howard. North Georgia led Emmanuel by 11 points with under five minutes remaining in the half before a three-pointer from Freshman Michael Wright would start a run for the Lions. Emmanuel rallied behind six more points from Senior Austin Green combined with a solid team performance to close the gap to 39-38 by halftime.
In the second half, Senior Kendrick Colvin would grab a short lived lead for Emmanuel with a successful layup. North Georgia's offense took over from there, led by Hopkins 17 points in the second half. Emmanuel struggled at the three-point line going 0-8 and allowed more turnover while being out-rebounded by the Nighthawks. Despite getting within four points of UNG, the Nighthawks were able to pull out the win with a final score of 79-71.
The Lions will be on the road for their next several games, starting with August University on Thursday.
