HONOLULU, HI - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team suffered two tough losses this week to start off their Hoops In Hawaii DII Power Invitational debut. Against Western Oregon, the Lions fell 76-64 before a close overtime loss to Hawaii Pacific, 90-83.
In their consolation game, the Lions took on Western Washington who previously fell to Chaminade and Southern Nazarene. After trailing most of the first half, Senior Kendrick Colvin would rally with several shots to bring them within just two points. A layup from Freshman Kyler Ingram tied the score at 27-27 with two minutes left in the half. A couple free-throws and a three-point later allowed Western Washington to sit on top once again 33-30.
After returning from half time, Colvin had a dominant performance with 18 more of his 29 total points for the game. The Lions shot 45.9% from the floor, including 56.3% from the three-point line to help them outperform the Vikings. Despite several lead changes, Emmanuel hit the necessary shots with under three minutes remaining to overcome their deficit and defeat Western Washington 79-76.
This win gave the Lions a 7th place finish at the Hoops In Hawaii DII Power Invitational.
The Lions will resume action on Sunday, December 30th with an away game against Valdosta State.
