Men's Basketball Fall to Crusaders, 98-93

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team fell to Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday night, 98-93. Despite this loss, the Lions still finish regular season with the best record in Conference Carolinas, earning them the tile of Conference Carolinas Regular Season Champions.

The Lions trailed behind the Crusaders in the first half in just about every statistical category. Belmont Abbey was able to create an 11 point lead by halftime thanks to their 60% field goal percentage and solid rebounding. Despite their deficit, the Lions still converted 50% of their shots.

When returning from halftime, momentum began to switch as the Lions found more success at the net than the Crusaders. The Lions battled for the next 20 minutes, getting within just 3 points of the Crusaders with 18 seconds left on the clock. Forced to foul, Emmanuel put their fate in the hands of Belmont Abbey who capitalized by making both free throws. The Lions were unable to score again, ending the night with a 98-93 loss.

Senior Austin Greene led all players with 28 points. Sophomore Brandon Simpson totaled 8 rebounds.

Next up, No. 1 Lions will host No. 8 Lees-McRae on Tuesday, March 5th at 7:00pm for the Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinals.
