WINGATE, N.C. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team fell to Wingate University, 92-78 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Emerson McClung would lead the Lions with 10 first half points as EC and Wingate battled back and forth for the lead. A hot streak from the three-point line would thrust the Bulldogs to a 14 point lead with under five minutes left in the half. The Lions responded with seven unanswered points to cut the Bulldog lead in half, including two three-pointers from McClung and Freshman Eric Jones. As the half finished out, the Bulldogs led 45-39.
As action continued into the second half, Wingate continued to build upon their lead with a 47 point performance. With just over five minutes left of play, the Bulldogs held their highest lead of the game at 17 points. The Lions matched their first half performance with 39 points which wasn't enough to fend off the Bulldogs. Wingate would cruise to a 92-78 victory.
Emerson McClung led the Lions with 17 points.
Next up, the Lions return home on Wednesday, November 20th to take on Lander University at 7:30pm.
