TAMPA, Fl - The men's golf team travelled down to Tampa, Florida to compete in their second event of the semester, the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff.
The Lions shot rounds of 317 and 323 in tough conditions the first two rounds on the Saddlebrook Course, leaving them in 6th place. A final round 300 was good enough to move into the top 5 for a total of 940. The event was won by Grand Valley University with a score of 877 for the three rounds.
The Lions were led by sophomore Logan Reese, who opened with rounds of 72-77 before firing a final round 69 en route to a second place finish in the 37 man field. Reese, whose round was one of only two under par rounds for the week, said after the round, "I heard that Stowe was having a much better day today and it really inspired me to play some golf." Junior Chris Stowe bounced back from a rough second round with a solid 79 on the difficult layout.
Senior Erik Sundstrom's 233 total (79-79-75) put him in 18th place while junior Emilio Fanjul's 238 (84-77-77) left him tied for 22nd. Junior Chris Stowe and freshman Chase Martin rounded out the Lion's lineup finishing in 31st and 34th place, respectively.
Next up, men's golf will take on conference rivals in the North Greenville University Invitational on March 18 and 19.
