Lions Lacrosse Falls to Brevard Tornados

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Brevard, N.C. to take on the Brevard Tornados in their second game of the season.

The Valentine's Day matchup ended in a 18-5 loss for the Lions, putting them at 0-2 for the season.

The first quarter started off with five straight goals for the Tornados before Tyler Machado made an unassisted goal with 1:45 remaining.

Machado, without an assist, also made the next goal for the Lions less than a minute into the second quarter. After his goal, the Lions trailed 5-2.

Brevard's Jackson McKaig, who had eight of the 18 goals for the Tornados, made the next two goals of the game and put the score at  7-2.

Alex Stull, with an assist from William Schlorf, made a goal with 9:16 remaining in the quarter.

The other goal for the Lions in the second quarter was made by Cam Free with an assist from Maurice Johnson. The Lions ended the quarter trailing 11-4.

The third quarter almost proved to be a shutout for both teams until McKaig scored for the Tornados with 31 seconds remaining.

Justin Parker scored the last goal for the Lions with 7:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. With five more goals from Brevard, the Tornados came out on top 18-5.

Luke Harris, Ethan Brundage, and Avery Lattimore all had time in the goal for the Lions. Harris ended the matchup with six saves while Brundage had five, for a total of 11 saves.

The Lions ended the game winning nine out of the 26 face offs. The team also had a total of 25 shots, 38 ground balls and 23 turnovers.

Out of the 25 shots for the Lions, Stull had four of them. Machado and Free had three, while Johnson, Parker, Brian Marter and Lance Olson had two. Todd Mass, Michael Balsamides, Matt Casey, Schlorf, Benjamin Bryant, Scotty Arthur and Josh Hunter all had one.

The Lions return home to take on Newberry College at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17.
