Lions Drop Road Contest to Newberry 22-13

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team hit the road on Wednesday taking on the Wolves of Newberry College. The Wolves came out on top in a 22-13 victory over EC.

Shamaz Durrant started the scoring off for the Lions, scoring his first of the night within two minutes of the opening face-off. A quick five goal run from Newberry would steal any momentum from the Lions as they trailed for the duration. Matthew Mitchell closed out the opening quarter with his first as the Lions went into the break down 5-2.

Mitchell's offensive efforts would spill over into the second quarter as he found Alex Stull who found the net within the first minute of the quarter. Newberry countered with back-to-back goals including their first man-up goal of the night. Durrant and Mitchell would account for two man-up goals in the second quarter as well. The Wolves would answer each of the Lions goals and finish the half 11-6.

A late cross-check call on Durrant would give Newberry another man-up opportunity which led to another goal for the Wolves. The Wolves would score five more in the middle minutes of the quarter with Mitchell claiming one as well. Lance Olson would score a late man-up goal followed by Alex Stull gaining another for the Lions in the late minutes of the third. The Lions had ground to cover with Newberry holding a seven point lead heading into the final quarter.

Newberry came out of the quarter break firing on all cylinders as they notched three in the first three minutes of the fourth. Mitchell, Olson, and Stull would all score for the Lions in the fourth, but the Wolves lead had grown too much. A final score of 22-13 would send the Lions back to Franklin Springs.
