Lions down Shorter in Home Opener!

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Tennis Team hosted the Shorter University Hawks today as the Spring season opening match.

The Lions were looking strong at the start of the dual with Canadas / Pereira on court #3 quickly earning an important service break to get a fast jump on the scoreboard before finishing the match and earning the first point of the day for the home team by 8-2. On Court #1 the match was a bit more complicated with breaks for both teams, but the Lions kept pressing the net and with great approaches to the net, the Freshmen duo formed by Jarry / Johansen earned the second point by 8-3.

After a 10-minute break, it was time for singles action and EC needed at least 3 more points to clinch the event. The first one came from the Junior, Enrique Alcacer who moved his opponent around the court to earn a quick win in 2 sets by 6-1 6-0.  Noah Johansen, on the other hand, had to fight for over 2 hours to give the Lions another point by 7-6 6-4. The fifth win came from the Sophomore, Jorge Canadas, who wasted no time to dispatch his foe by 6-1 6-1. Emmanuel still got two extra wins by the end of the day. First win the Freshman, Tom Jarry in 3 sets by 7-5 6-7 13-11 and then by Juan Carlos Romero by 5-7 6-1 7-6.

Emmanuel Men's Tennis will be back in action at another home event, next Tuesday, February 13th against the Erskine Flying Fleet. This will be EC first Conference Carolinas match of the Season! First serve is scheduled for 2PM!
