Men’s Tennis takes down Royals for NCCAA win!

Knoxville, TN – The Emmanuel College Tennis Team traveled to the home of the Johnson University Royals for a last NCCAA event of the season.

The NCCAA South Regional Champions were looking to keep their undefeated status in NCCAA matches this season today. And that is exactly what happened at the Royals' courts this afternoon!

At the start of the doubles matches, Emmanuel was looking just too dominant on all 3 courts today, giving little to no chances for the home team. The first doubles team to win a point for EC was on court #2 formed by Canadas / Pereira with unquestionable 8-0 win. Right next to them, the freshmen Wilson / Davis helped the Lions with a second win, after a missing a few chances at the beginning of the match, by 8-3. Lastly, on court #1 Alcacer / Romero just had to get a service break to close a swept in doubles matches for the Lions by 8-5.

In singles action, everything was even smoother for Emmanuel. The 3-0 lead after doubles gave an extra boost for the Lions who earned a first point in singles play with the Senior Lucas Pereira on court #2, who only dropped a pair of games in two sets for a 6-1 6-1 win. The Junior Enrique Alcacer gave the 5th and decisive point for Emmanuel on court #4 with a dominant score of 6-0 6-1. Both Jorge Canadas on court #3 and Joshua Davis on #6 never gave their respective opponents any chances today, with wins by 6-0 6-0 on both courts. The Sophomore, Juan Carlos Romero, and the Freshman, Brandon Wilson, had to work for their victories. On court #1, Romero started well but he saw his opponent making him play several rallies and not giving up, forcing the Lion to shift gears before earning an 8th point for EC by 6-2 6-3. The last one to get out of the court was Wilson, who was not playing his best tennis today with a few unusual mistakes from the back of the court, but the Lion eventually took off on court #5 to complete the sweep today for the Lions by 6-1 6-2.

Coming up next, Emmanuel will be back on the home courts this Sunday for the last time this season, where they will honor the sole senior of the year, Lucas Pereira. The Emmanuel College Tennis Team will host the University of South Carolina – Sumter Fire Ants! First serve is scheduled for 1:00PM!
