Men's Volleyball Falls to Life in Five Setter

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team fell to Life University on Wednesday night, 3-2. This loss brings the Lions record to 3-5 overall, 0-3 in conference.

The Running Eagles overpowered the Lions with 70 kills to Emmanuel's 44. Despite the difference offensively, the Lions Matched their opponent in blocks and had far less service errors, forcing Life to five close sets.

Emmanuel had their best performance in the opening set, hitting .344% and earning an 8 point run to come from behind and take the set 25-22.

Life University led the entire second set and closed it out 25-21.

The third set saw a back and forth exchange for the lead before the Running Eagles made a couple of runs at the midway point to extend their lead. Life clenched the third set 25-20.

In the fourth, Emmanuel dominated the first half of the game, grabbing a 7 point lead. Life began to put pressure later on in the set, outscoring the Lions 10 to 3 to tie up the match at 23-23. Finally, a kill from freshman Jomar Mondestin followed by an ace from Sophomore Mateus Bade gave the Lions the set 25-23.

The Lions gained control in the fifth set, before a critical five point run allowed Life to steal the lead. Emmanuel retaliated with a few earned points combined with several Life errors to tie the set up, 11-11. One final push from the Running Eagles allowed them to take the final set, 15-12.

Juniors Don Thompson and Alejandro Robles led the Lions with 12 kills each.

Next up, the Lions will take on conference opponent Lees-McRae at home on Friday, February 1st at 7:00pm.
