Lady Lions Softball Fought Hard With Lees-McRae

Franklin Springs, GA - On Sunday, March 19th, 2017, the Emmanuel Lady Lions took on the Lees-McRae Bobcats in a double header event.

In game one of the match up the Bobcats started off with a run after a couple singles were strung together but the smart pitching of Sophomore Taylor Saxon shut down the Bobcat offense. Bottom of the first, Crystal Busbee reached on an error by the third baseman and was then advanced to third when freshman Mary Baxter bunted and also reached on an error. Sophomore Brianna Morgan then walked to load the bases. Freshman Noelle Petty then stepped up to single and bring in Busbee for Emmanuel's first run! Mary Baxter then crossed the plate on a pass-ball by the catcher to make the score 2-0 Lions.  The Lions would continue to lead until the top of the 6th when Lees-McRae had a triple and a single bring in a run to once again tie the game. The Lions would then go into extra innings where the Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the 8th and the Lions would score two more runs to once again fight to tie the game. Finally the Cats scored five in the top of the 9th to which the Lions could only answer with one causing the Lions to lose the hard fought match 10-5.

In game two of the match up both pairs came out strong on defense shutting each other down at the plate until the bottom of the 3rd when freshman Meredith Reece walked and then reached to second by a sacrifice hit from Halle Cheek.  Sophomore Crystal Busbee then moved Reece to third off a single.  Freshman Mary Baxter then flew out to centerfield to bring in Reece to put the Lions in the lead. This went unanswered until Lees-McRae finally answered back in the top of the 5th when a HBP and a couple singles brought in 3 runs for the Bobcats.  Unable to answer, the Lions fell to the Bobcats 3-1. Pitcher Erin Harden had a good game striking out 8 players while Senior Catcher Halle Cheek once again had a great game working hard behind the plate.
