Lion Softball Splits with The University of Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – On March 25th, 2017 the Emmanuel Lady Lions took on The University of Mount Olive in a double header event.

In game one, Mount Olive came out strong in the bottom of the 1st to put their first run on the board. Which went unanswered by the Lady Lions. UMO came out again to score three more runs in the bottom of second off a hit-by-pitch, walk, and an error to make the score 4-0.

Continuing the Mount Olive rally, the Trojans score one more again in the bottom of the 3rd; 5-0 Trojans. Emmanuel, unable to answer the Trojan offense, fell to UMO in the bottom of the 6th when a single, a double, and a home run gave the Trojans enough to run rule.

In game two of the match up, the Lady Lions finally pulled together to score their first run in the top of the 3rd when sophomore Crystal Busbee singled up the middle, freshman Mary Baxter singled to third base, and sophomore Becky Collins singled to the left side bringing in Busbee.

Top of the 4th, freshman Noelle Petty continued the Emmanuel rally by taking a hit-by-pitch and then sophomore Alannah Long reached on an error.  Freshman Kristin Durden then SAC bunted to advance the runners and a wild throw by the Trojan defense brought Petty home; 2-0 Lions.

Again top of the 6th, Emmanuel continued their scoring when Kristin Durden singled to left field and then freshman Meredith Reece singled to third base to move Durden over. Senior Halle Cheek then singled to centerfield to bring in Reece to further the Emmanuel lead 3-0.

Junior pitcher Erin Harden shut down the Mount Olive offense collecting a total of 8 strike outs!

The Lady Lions take on Barton College at Barton on Sunday, March 26th at noon and 2:00pm.
