FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Lady Lions Softball team won a double-header at home against Montreat College on Feb. 23.
The Lady Lions made five runs against Montreat's one during the first game.
The first and second innings were shutouts for both teams although the Lady Lions were close to making a run with three left on base with a third out in the bottom of the first.
With Noelle Petty on second and Mayfield on first, Becky Collins grounded out to the pitcher and allowed her teammates to advance. Morgan Franklin then grounded out to the shortstop on the next play and Noelle Petty scored the run.
Montreat made their only run of the game in the top of the fourth and the Lady Lions had no runs in the bottom of the fourth. While the fifth inning was another shutout for both teams, the Lady Lions came back in the bottom of the sixth and scored the rest of their runs.
Kristin Durden was a pinch hitter for Morgan and advanced to second. Long scored on the next play when Noelle Petty flied out to center field. With Durden now on third base, Mayfield singled on the next play and advanced Durden to home.
The Lady Lions finished the game 5-1.
The next game was played in five innings and ended with the Lady Lions producing 16 runs over Montreat's two.
After a shutout first inning from both teams, the Lady Lions scored 14 of their 16 runs in the bottom of the second.
Mary Baxter reached on an error by Montreat's pitcher on the first play and advanced to second after Reece was hit by the pitch on the second play.
Isabelle Petty then singled and advanced to second on another error from Montreat's pitcher. This caused Reece to advance to third and Baxter to score the first run.
Driver scored the fourth run after Durden advanced to second after being hit by a pitch and Becky Collins singled. Clingerman scored the fifth run after Morgan Franklin singled to the left field and advanced to first.
A walk from Baxter on the next play advanced all the players on base and Durden scored the sixth run. Reece was hit by the pitch on the next play and again advanced all the players on base, causing Collins to score the seventh run.
The top of the third produced the two runs from Montreat and the bottom of the third produced one more run from the Lady Lions from Reece.
The last run of the game for the Lady Lions was made during the bottom of the fourth from Morgan. After Montreat went to bat in the top of the fifth, the game ended with a 16-2 win for the Lady Lions.
The Lady Lions played their next game at home against Brewton Parker on Feb. 24.
