MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team was narrowly defeated by conference opponent Mount Olive on Wednesday afternoon. After battling back and forth the entire game, including eight lead changes, the Trojans were able to extend their one point lead in the final minute to capture a 63-60 victory.
Thanks to solid shooting from Senior Taylor Delasbour, the Lions grabbed an early lead and were able to maintain it for most of the first half. A string of Mount Olive points at the end of the 2nd quarter allowed the Trojans to take the lead heading into half time.
Upon returning from half time, the Lions trailed until the final two minutes of the third quarter when Delasbour stole the lead back. Delasbour would deliver 6 more points in the quarter to put Emmanuel up once again heading into the fourth.
The final quarter was a toss up with several lead changes. Despite the Lions leading in shooting percentage from the field, they were unsuccessful at the three-point line and never got the chance to grab any points from the free throw line. The Trojans would close out the game 63-60.
Delasbour led the Lions with a career high 28 points.
The Lions will continue action on Saturday, January 5th when they take on conference opponent Limestone College at 2:00 pm in the Williamson Basketball Arena.
