BELMONT, N.C. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team fell to conference opponent Belmont Abbey on Saturday night, 70-53. This loss brings an end to the Lady Lions' six game win-streak and brings their record to 14-6 overall, 9-4 conference.
Despite a solid showing in the first quarter with a 50% field goal percentage, the Lions were unable to keep up with the Crusaders tempo for the remainder of the night. The ladies struggled in the second quarter, failing to post a double-digit shooting percentage, and finding themselves facing a hefty deficit. Belmont Abbey continued to control the court all the way into the fourth quarter, leading the Lions by 27 points at their peak. The Lady Lions finally began to push back towards the end, putting up 22 points for their highest scoring quarter of the night. Unfortunately, their efforts came short as the Crusaders had already propelled themselves too far ahead. Belmont Abbey closed out the game 70-53.
Next up, the Lions will head to conference opponent Erksine College on Wednesday, February 6th at 5:30pm.
