MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Emmanuel College Lions fell to the Mount Olive Trojans in overtime on Saturday afternoon. The Lions came out strong stringing together several good passing sequences and putting the Trojan attack under pressure early. Noel Samples looked dangerous up front early, forcing a save from Trojan Keeper Gigi Ramirez in the 8th minute. The score was locked at 0-0 going into half time, both teams battling hard to gain possession and take the ball forward. The Lions lost senior Jessica Cheek to injury early in the second half but freshman Alyssa Hearn was up the challenge, clearing a shot off the goal line with her head in the 61st minute. The Trojans attacked hard for the remainder of the second half, Emmanuel doing well to continue to battle and clear the ball out of their defensive area. At full time neither team had managed to put the ball in the back of the net, sending the game into overtime. The Trojans continued to dominate the attack early in overtime, with substitute Ellie Barnes scoring the winning goal off a deflection in the 97th minute.

After another tough non-conference game Sunday afternoon at UNC Pembrooke, the Lions fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference. Emmanuel will be looking for redemption when they face Conference Carolina's Belmont Abbey, who finished second in conference last year to Lees-McRae. The game is set to kick off at 5pm on Saturday September 27.
