Emmanuel College Sports Information
Gaffney, S.C.---The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer team had a tough loss Tuesday evening to Conference Carolina foe Limestone University. The Limestone Saints looked dangerous early, managing to get on the scoreboard early after a miss cleared corner by Limestone's Zoe Fisher was finished by Jenna Stoner in the 3rd minute of play. Emmanuel conceded again in the 16th minute after a forward was left unmarked in the box, finishing a cross from the right hand side of the field. While Emmanuel did not get anything to show on the scoreboard for their first half efforts, the Lions strung together several good passing sequences and looked threatening at several key moments up forward. Minus the two early errors the Lion defense looked strong, catching Limestone offside 8 times in the first half. Seniors Kelly Hall and Liene Vaciete both had 2 shots on goal for the game, but scoring opportunities were slim for the Lions as an organized Limestone defense proved difficult to beat.
The Lions managed to keep the Saints off the scoreboard in the second half until the 82nd minute when a free kick from 25 yards was nicely converted by Helen Winterburn. The Lions continued to fight hard against a quality opponent, unlucky not to convert on one of their three second half corner kicks. Freshman Marina Eisenhut went all 90 minutes in the game for the Lions collecting 7 saves. The Lions return home Saturday night, to take on Pfeiffer College at 5pm at the Stevens Athletic Field
