FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.---Former Emmanuel College women's soccer player Liene Vaciete just wrapped up the qualifying phase of the EURO 2017 tournament playing for her Latvian national soccer team.

Latvia finished with a record of 1-1-1 tied for second spot in Group 1 as Moldova won the group and advances into the next phase.

LV was the leading scorer for Latvia at the event netting three goals and adding one assist. She also scored the most points in her four-team group and finished tied as the fourth leading scorer in the tournament.

In game one of the tournament, LV scored a goal and an assist for Latvia as they slipped to Luxembourg 4-3. Game two saw LV score the lone goal of the game to defeat Moldova. The LV game-winner over Moldova pushed Latvia to just their second-ever win in a fully-sanctioned, FIFA-sponsored event (the first was in 2011 in EURO 2013 qualification over Lithuania). Game three was again versus Baltic neighbors Lithuania where LV scored the game-tying goal to knot things at 1-1.

"LV had some huge goals for us here at EC and it is no surprise she did so well in this EURO 2017 event," said EC Head Coach Forrest Wimberly. "There were no bigger goals for LV here at EC than the game-winning goals versus NCAA D 1 SC State in 2013 and versus Palm Beach Atlantic on senior night 2014. The sudden-death, overtime, game-winner versus PBA surrounded by several members of her family here from Latvia really stands out as a special moment in our EC program's history."

LV now returns home to Riga where she will continue to play for club side Riga United FC.
