Belmont, NC - The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer team suffered a tough loss to 2014 Conference Carolina's champions Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon.
The game was competitive early with Emmanuel coming out in a defensive shape with plenty of numbers behind the ball to halt the Crusader attack. The Crusaders started to pick up their speed of play midway through the first half and were able to capitalize on a penalty in the 18th minute, when a Crusader forward was taken down in the box. Just four minutes later some poor marking by Emmanuel saw an opening at the back post that was exploited by the Crusaders, the home team taking a 2-0 lead into half time.
The second half was dominated by the home team, their discipline in maintaining possession and ability to win the 50-50 balls being the difference between the two teams. The final score was 5-0, a hard day at the office for the Lions who struggled to generate much attack.
The Lions will be back in action next week with two home games, the first being Brevard on Tuesday with kick-off slated for 5pm.
