Franklin Springs, GA - In one of their final collegiate soccer matches, four seniors from the Emmanuel Women's Soccer Team were honored as they took on Mount Olive. Unable to score, the Lions fell to the Trojans 3-0, but nonetheless, they stepped off the field proud of their accomplishments over the years.
The first senior to be honored was defender #18 Miki Cain from Kennesaw, Georgia. Miki is a psychology major and has been named to the EC Dean's List and President's list five times. She has made 68 appearances for the Lions scoring 1 goal while adding 1 assist during her career. She has been both a conference and national scholar athlete in the NAIA, NCCAA, and NCAA. Miki's favorite soccer moment was Freshman year beating Southern Wesleyan 5-0, and finding out afterwards they would get to go to Florida for the Christian conference playoffs. Miki plans to attend graduate school, and pursue a masters degree in professional counseling in order to become a licensed counselor.
The Next senior is forward #17 Ellie Chapman from Adelaide, South Australia. Ellie is a Biology major and has been named to the EC Dean's list and President's list six times. She has made 68 appearances for the Lions scoring 3 goals while adding 1 assist. She has been a conference and national scholar athlete numerous occasions and was an NCCAA Third-Team All-American selection in 2014. She also scored the first goal for Emmanuel Soccer in the new NCAA-Era of the program in 2014. Ellie's favorite soccer moment was beating South Carolina State University in 2013, and beating Palm Beach Atlantic in 2014. Her plans after graduation are to move back home to Australia, go to graduate school for something science related, and eventually travel the world.
Breanna Grizzle, #19 goalkeeper, was the next senior to be recognized. from Royston, Georgia. Breanna is an Early Childhood Education major and has been named to the EC Dean's List and President's list six times. She has made 45 appearances for the Lions making 169 saves during her career. She also has been a conference and national scholar athlete with the NAIA, NCCAA, and NCAA. Breanna's favorite soccer moment was beating Southern Wesleyan with the seniors and the rest of the team 3-1 this season. Her plans after graduation are to find a teaching position at an elementary school and coach soccer.
Last but not least is senior midfielder #23 Emma Tamblyn from Kempsey, Australia. Emma is a Sports Management/Kinesiology double major and has been named to the EC Dean's List and President's list six times. She has made 70 appearances for the Lions scoring 10 goals while adding 7 assists during her career. She has been a conference and national scholar athlete and has also competed with the Emmanuel Swim team during her career. Emma's favorite soccer coring a hat-trick against North Greenville in 2014. Her plans after graduation are to return to Australia, and move back in with her mom and dad until she can earn some money, and get a teaching job at a high school, teaching physical education.
Coach Wimberly had the following to say about his seniors, "This is a very special group of players to both me and the program as they have successfully helped transition our program from the NAIA to the NCAA over the past four seasons. I have learned so much from this group and their honest, caring, and insightful words have helped me greatly in guiding this program during their careers. We will miss all of you next season…but know that you depart the program after a job well-done here at EC. May God bless you and the next steps along both your career and educational journeys."
