FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's soccer team brought the first home game win of the 2018-19 school year against Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday night.
In the two hour and eleven minute match, the Lions had a dominant performance with 20 shots compared to the Hurricanes 10 on their way to a 4-0 victory.
When action began, the Lions immediately took control of the game, commanding the offense. Just over three minutes into the game, Sophomore transfer Hannah Logue scored her first ever goal for the Lions with a shot into the top right corner of the net. Logue would follow up five minutes later with another goal, bringing the score to 2-0.
The third goal of the night came fifteen minutes into the first period, when Senior Kayla Brown fired a shot into the net, assisted by Junior Lindsay Lee. By the end of the 1st period, Emmanuel restrained the Hurricanes from taking any shots on goal while bringing the score to 3-0.
In the second half, Lindsay Lee struck first for the Lions with an assist from Freshman Bailie Garland. The remainder of the game whisked by without the Lions affording the Hurricanes a chance to score.
"It was a good effort from the team tonight and we are happy to get the result," said Head Coach Nathan Harrell. "There was a positive balance of new and veteran players that worked well together today. We also saw areas that we will work on in the coming week, but we are excited about the progress the team has made through pre-season."
The women's soccer team will have a week away from competition before taking on conference opponent King University on Saturday, Sept. 8th at home.
