Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team hosted the Lenoir-Rhyne University today, in a regular NCAA D-II regional match.
The Lady Lions looked strong at the start of the doubles competition with all courts ahead, early on the scoreboard. With a more dominant returns and fast approaches at the net, the first point of the day came from #8 O'Connor/Botella on court #1 by 8-4. Not too long after on court #3, Cipriano/Silva also helped the EC Team with a second point by 8-6. Last but not least, the home team also earned a third point in doubles on court #2 with Kiderlen/Raich by a solid 8-4.
With a comfortable lead of 3-0 at the start of singles play, Emmanuel only needed two extra wins to earn the clinch. The fourth point came on court #1 with a great performance by the Junior #12 Fantine Botella with a dominant score of 6-1 6-1. On court #2, the Junior Pearllan Cipriano had to fight and run a lot on the second set, after grabbing the first by 6-1. The lady lion did not disappoint and after great counter attacks, she finally earned the clinch for EC with a 6-1 6-4 victory. Emmanuel did not stop at five victories today. The Sophomore Victoria Silva had to go the distance after dropping the first set, but she gave Emmanuel a sixth victory by 1-6 6-4 10-7. Finally, on court #6, the Junior, Chloe O'Connor was able to find her best tennis to grab a 3-set win by 6-7 6-4 10-2.
The Lady Lions Tennis Team will be back in action in a week, but now on the road when they will face a NCAA D-I opponent, the University of North Carolina – Asheville. First serve is scheduled for 2PM!
