Franklin Springs, GA - The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball Team went 1 for 1 this past weekend against two fellow conference members.
After a string of away games, the Lady Lions returned home this past weekend to take on the Saints of Limestone and the Converse Valkyries. Earlier in the season Emmanuel lost to Limestone and defeated Converse.
Friday's match saw the lions take on Limestone to conclude the series. In an effort to defeat Limestone after losing to them earlier in the season, the Lions found themselves in a similar situation. The Saints started out the first set with twice as many kills as the Lions, allowing them to close it out 25-16. Set two was much closer due to a stronger Emmanuel offense. The Lions fought the second set but still weren't able to pull it out, losing 25-22. Set three again went to Limestone to close out the match. The scores were 25-16, 25-22, 25-16. Emmanuel was led by Erica Burnham with 10 kills.
The weekend concluded with a rematch against Converse College on Saturday. Earlier in the season Emmanuel defeated Converse 3-1. The Lions showed a dominant performance in the first set with over twice as many kills and half as many errors as the Valkyries. Set two had Converse leading in kills this time, but the Lions were still able to close it out 25-21. The Valkyries fought back in the third set, taking a run towards the end to make the score 2-1. Emmanuel was able to finish the match the fourth set in similar fashion to the first time the teams met this season. The scores were 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18. The Lions were led by Erica Burnham with 16 kills and Julie de Blanck with 12 kills.
The Lions next match will be home against Southern Wesleyan. SWU defeated Emmanuel 3-0 earlier in the season. Be sure to wear pink to support Dig Pink, a special event hosted by the lions in support for breast cancer awareness.
