FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team ended their regular season with their 10th straight win, this time against conference opponent Erskine College. In their previous matchup, the Lions won 3-1. This time Emmanuel swept the Fleet in three sets.
Erskine started off the match with a five point run while the Lions struggled to side out. The Fleet continued to unleash a flurry of points and found themselves at a 19-10 lead. Finally, Emmanuel began to put some points on the board when Junior Mia McKensey sided out with a kill. Sophomore Jenna Woodruff followed up with one of her own. An attack error for the Lions would give the fleet another point before Emmanuel returned with a 4 point run. The fleet would score again with a kill from Jauhna Smith before a service error allowed the Lions to go on a five point run. Emmanuel came back to close out the first set 25-22.
In the second set, Emmanuel broke away after a service error from the Fleet. Junior Stephanie Hardy served an ace followed by a kill from both Freshman Mia Cotton and Junior Jessica Gray. A couple more runs from the Lions made for an easy 25-20 victory.
The third and final set was all Emmanuel with a .385 hitting percentage to the Fleets .194. After giving the first two points to Erskine at the start of the set, The Lions rallied with several runs all the way to a final score of 25-20.
The Lions now stand at 20-8 overall and 14-1 in conference. The Conference Carolinas post season will begin on Tuesday, November 6th when Emmanuel hosts Lees-McRae in the quarter-final matchup at 6:30pm.
